The Department of Diabetes and Endocrinology is seeking a dynamic and experienced
individual to fill the position of Research Assistant/Interviewer for the DISCOVER ME-
SOUTH AFRICA (DMSA) study, through a partnership between University of KwaZulu-Natal
(UKZN). Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital (IALCH) / Department of Health (DOH) and
Omnigen Biodata Limited, UK.
The aim of the study is to create a dynamic resource of demographic, health and genetic
data to understand clinical disease progression and informed risk prediction. The study will
enroll up to 100,000 participants (patients) attending IALCH over a two-year period, and
integrate their electronic health record (EHR) with genetic data. The incumbent will be based
in Durban, at IALCH, Medical school Campus and potentially in the community.
The successful candidate will be responsible for inviting, interviewing and enrolling potential
research study participants, and collecting informed consent forms.
Other Duties:
- Follow the study protocol and procedures
- Implement sound housekeeping procedure and work effectively with others as a
- member of a team to ensure a safe working environment
- Ensure safe keeping of all electronic devices at all times
- Observe and follow all safety protocols including Covid-19 related protocols
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12/Matric certificate
- 1 year prior experience conducting interviews for health research studies
Essential Requirements:
- Excellent communication skills
- Fluent in English and Zulu
- Able to operate online software on a tablet device
- Good time management skills
