Requirements

The City of Cape Town is looking to appoint an experienced,

results-driven, energetic leader who has gained a solid mix of

operational management experience and strategic leadership

capabilities to direct its Recreation and Parks Department.

  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree
  • Extensive managerial and functional experience at a senior level,

with a proven track record demonstrating the ability to manage a

large and diverse mix of operational and professional teams within a

parks and recreation environment

  • Sound knowledge of legislation applicable to Local Government
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills and ability to

interface at a political level

  • Driver’s licence and own vehicle.

Key Performance Areas

  • Recreation Framework, Strategy, Programmes and Services:

o Provide strategic direction to recreational programme planning

and delivery and the co-ordination of programmes across the

Department; lead continuous business improvement

o Political reporting and liaising with the public and community

structures, including NGOs and NPOs

o Consolidate the Institutional Framework that regulates interaction

between the City and the Local Sports Fraternity

o Establish partnerships

o Facilitate the implementation of strategic projects

o Conduct research and ensuring the implementation of

infrastructure development plans

o Policy development; ensuring the compilation of service level

agreements and ensuring that recreation infrastructure plans are

aligned to the City’s Development Plan and Spatial Planning

  • Ensure that an effective and on-going cemetery function is

delivered to the citizens of Cape Town

  • Manage horticultural services and ecological conservation
  • Ensure sound financial management
  • Manage the human resources within the department ensuring a

climate conducive to promoting and sustaining motivational levels,
