DESIGNATION: SYSTEM CONTROLLER
GROUP: ENERGY MANAGEMENT
DEPARTMENT: ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
REPORTING TO: HEAD OF SHIFT
TASK GRADE 11 (R555 029)
Appointment Minimum Requirements:
• N6 in Electrical Engineering
• Electrical Trade Test Certification
• 3 years’ relevant experience

• National Diploma (NQF 6) in Electrical Engineering
Primary Function:
Oversee the various systems and test, maintain and monitor the control systems and ensuring consistent
results and operations of the system within specified tolerances; Report on any system related discrepancies
and highlight any inconsistencies that may have hindered performance on a given shift. Conduct; execute or
control test isolation, protection and restoration applications on the electricity control system and communicate
information on the validity of approaches and actions against options/ alternatives to maintain safety at
optimum performance levels thus contributing to an acceptable level of service delivery to the major critical
and general customer base.
Key Responsibilities:
Work with field operations teams, maintenance and engineering to establish priorities for electrical system
preventative maintenance, repair and replacement. Evaluate outage requests from Authorised officials (Field
Operators). Instruct safe operating to Authorised officials as per ORHVS. Management of daily switching
operations including planned and unplanned network events. Perform real time power system control &
network optimisation. Recommend changes and upgrades to the system to improve system performance and
safety. Perform plant performance monitoring and escalate all faulty/ defective equipment discoverd during the
process to relevant deprtaments. Enhance customer satisfaction. Provide relevant feedback on electricity
delivery where appropriate. Ensure proper on job training and effectiveness improvement. Ensure safety of
personnel and plant by evaluating risks. Provide input into the compilation and revision of safety and system
operating guielines, standards and procedures. Enforce safety awareness. Ensure compliance to all relevant
legislative and SHERQ requirements
